It's easy to take for granted the availability and abundance of food products we use everyday. With today's population one or perhaps two generations removed from the farm, not much thought is given to where our food actually comes from. In the winter months in Canada we likely consume fruits and vegetables grown in the southern United States or Latin America. Of course in the summer we enjoy many products that are grown locally.
All the fruits, vegetables, grains and meat products we consume are produced by farmers. Producing food is often a 24/7 operation for many farmers who work hard to ensure we receive quality wholesome food products.
Sask Pork's Agri-Education program focusses on how pigs are raised in Canada and what our producers do to produce high quality pork that is exported to more than 85 countries around the world.
In addition to educating the public about modern pork production, we also place a lot of importance on the rewarding careers in the pork industry. There are opportunities for employment ranging from working directly with the animals to positions with related industries such such as hauling and transportation, processing, feed sales, trucking, administration and science and technology.
