Saskatchewan Swine Transport Biosecurity Program
January 16, 2015: Funding for the 2015 Saskatchewan Swine Transport Biosecurity Program (SSTBP) has been provided by the Government of Saskatchewan and Government of Canada through the Growing Forward 2 Program for Canadian Agriculture.
Sask Pork has received $150,000 in funding to assist Saskatchewan hog producers in improving general farm biosecurity and transport biosecurity in particular, as related to Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea prevention.
All Saskatchewan CQA® registered farms (premises) are eligible to participate. Producers can apply for a $300 payment to offset the cost of one veterinary visit. Producers are also eligible for payments for truck wash audits and inspections up to a total of $700, done by approved auditors or inspectors between August 1, 2014 and July 31, 2015. Of the $150,000 allocated for this program, approximately $45,000 will be applied to the veterinary visit component and $100,000 will be applied to the truck wash audits.
You may participate in both or either parts of this program. For the on-farm veterinary visit, please contact your veterinarian and schedule an on-farm biosecurity visit and review. For the transport audit part, contact your veterinarian or approved technician to schedule an audit. Inspections may be done at the wash facility or on the farm, as needed, by the third party inspector. Contact Sask Pork if you do not have access to an auditor.
Producers may then submit an application along with photocopies of original receipts to Sask Pork for review and payment. Payments will be processed on a first received basis, so later applications may not be eligible for payment, as funding is limited.
All applications must be received by Sask Pork before August 5, 2015.
