Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 30 mins
Number of Servings: 6 - 8

Ingredient

  • 1 lb (500 g) ground pork

  • 1 Tbsp (15 mL) chili powder

  • 1 tsp (5 mL) ground cumin

  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) sea salt

  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) dried oregano

  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) onion powder

  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) black pepper

  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) tomato sauce

  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) water

  • 1 (9 oz / 275 g) bag tortilla chips

  • 2 cup (500 mL) shredded cheese

Topping:

  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) sliced green olives

  • 1 medium tomato, diced

  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) green onion, diced

  • 1 avocado, peeled, pitted and coarsely chopped

  • 1 yellow pepper, seeded and diced

  • sour cream, optional

Directions:

For the ground pork:

  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add ground pork and break up meat with a spatula. Add chili powder, cumin, salt, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder and pepper to the meat. Stir to combine. Continue cooking until meat is cooked through, stirring occasionally to break up meat into small crumbles, about 6 - 8 minutes. Drain off fat.

  2. Reduce heat to medium. Add the tomato sauce and water to meat. Stir to combine. Continue cooking until some of the liquid evaporates, about 6 - 8 minutes. Remove from the heat.

For the Nachos:

  1. Preheat oven to 350˚F (180˚C). Line baking sheet with tin foil.

  2. Place a layer of tortilla chips on prepared baking sheet. Top with half of the seasoned pork and half of the cheese. Repeat with the remaining chips, seasoned pork and cheese.

  3. Bake until cheese melts, about 10 minutes.

  4. Place nachos on a platter, topped with olives, tomato, green onion, avocado and yellow pepper. Serve immediately with sour cream on the side.
