Maple Bacon Swizzle Stick Sundae

Ingredient:

Maple Glazed Bacon Swizzle Sticks:

  • 4 strips uncooked thin cut Verified Canadian bacon

  • 2 Tbsp (30 mL) pure maple syrup

  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Sundae:

  • 4 cups (1 L) vanilla ice cream

  • 4 Tbsp (60 mL) chocolate sauce

  • 4 Tbsp (60 mL) caramel sauce

  • 8 Maple Glazed Bacon Swizzle Sticks

  • 4 Tbsp (60 mL) whipped cream

  • 4 Tbsp (60 mL) salted peanuts, roughly chopped

  • Additional bacon or sprinkles for garnish

Directions:

To Prepare Maple Glazed Bacon Swizzle Stick:

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF (180ºC). Cover a baking sheet with foil and wrap 8 chopsticks or wooden skewers in foil.

  2. Cut bacon in half lengthwise and spiral each piece around chopstick or skewer. Brush maple syrup over bacon spirals.

  3. Cook approximately 25 minutes, turning bacon once, until crisp. Let cool and slide foil and bacon off of chopstick.

  4. Heat a large saucepan filled with water over high heat until boiling. Reduce heat to a simmer.

  5. Set a heat-proof bowl over the simmering water. Add chocolate chips and stir until smooth and completely melted.

  6. Using tongs, carefully dip the bacon into the melted chocolate turning to coat all sides in chocolate. Transfer to a plate lined with parchment paper.

  7. Refrigerate until chocolate is hard.

To Assemble Sundaes:

  1. Place 1 large scoop of ice cream in each of 4 sundae glasses or bowls.

  2. Drizzle chocolate and caramel sauce over ice cream.

  3. Insert 2 Maple Glazed Bacon Swizzle Sticks into ice cream.

  4. Add dollop of whipped cream on ice cream.

  5. Top with peanuts and garnish with additional bacon and/or sprinkles. Serve immediately.
